Trophy for the sixth mass extinction event: Walrus
2025, glazed ceramic, 15x14x10 inches
The fifth sculpture in this series, featuring the vulnerable Atlantic walrus, Odobenus rosmarus rosmarus.
The Earth has experienced five previous mass extinction events, the last one occurring 65.5 million years ago which wiped out the dinosaurs from existence. Due to human activity, we’re in the midst of a sixth mass extinction, driven by the unsustainable use of land, water and energy use, and climate change. As our world’s most powerful leaders act more proud of this mass extinction than appalled, I’ve made trophies to congratulate them on a job done about as poorly as one can do.
